Our Team
Skylar’s love for dentistry began at just eight years old, inspired by a dentist who encouraged her early on to pursue the profession. She graduated from dental hygiene school with honors in 2014 and has spent over ten years working full time in private practice—an environment she deeply values for its focus on genuine, family-centered patient care. Skylar continues to work as an RDH alongside Dr. Whetten, whose office has become an extension of her own family.
Grounded in deep faith, Skylar’s morals and approach to both life and work are rooted in her belief that nothing she has achieved would be possible without God. This foundation guides the way she serves others—with humility, integrity, and purpose.
While Skylar’s professional roots are firmly planted in private practice, her intermittent time spent temping for close colleagues opened her eyes to a widespread challenge in dentistry: the confusion and stress surrounding compliance. Seeing how compliance demands often distract dentists and hygienists from the work they love sparked a passion to help bridge that gap.
Through Customize Compliance, Skylar is dedicated to supporting dental professionals so they can remain confident, compliant, and focused on delivering exceptional care.
Outside of dentistry, Skylar enjoys country life with her husband and two children—far from city lights and escaping to the mountains to go camping and hunting whenever they can.
As a dentist and practice owner, Doug understands both the rewards and the pressures of operating an independent dental practice. After graduating from dental school, he returned to the classroom to earn a Master of Healthcare Administration (MHA) degree, deepening his understanding of the operational, regulatory, and business dynamics shaping today’s dental practice landscape.
Doug served for five years as an independent expert case reviewer for the Colorado Dental Board. His perspective on compliance became deeply personal after experiencing an unannounced inspection at a practice where he worked as a part-time associate dentist.
Navigating the investigative process firsthand reinforced a critical lesson: every licensed dental professional – regardless of ownership or employment status – shares responsibility for ensuring that regulatory requirements are properly implemented, maintained, and documented.
While assisting colleagues in achieving and sustaining regulatory compliance, Doug and Skylar recognized a widespread need among dentists and hygienists to be relieved of the stress, uncertainty, and administrative burden associated with compliance. Their shared vision led to the creation of Customize Compliance, allowing clinicians to focus more fully on patient care, clinical excellence, and productivity – without constant concern about inspections or regulatory gaps.
Outside the dental setting, Doug enjoys spending time with his family in the mountains and traveling. He has a lifelong passion for aviation and earned his private pilot’s license in his younger years.
